NLP Sessions with Practitioner Tam Johnston

As a certified and highly experienced NLP coach and Master Practitioner, I’m excited to offer in-person Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) coaching to you in Brighton and Hove. If you want change but don’t fancy months of digging around in the past, I think you’ll like how we’d work together.

NLP focuses on how your brain constructs your thoughts and perceptions of yourself, others and the world you live in. This influences how you experience things and how you respond. It’s far less about ‘why’ you are like you are, and far more about how to shift what’s been running on autopilot and to ‘wire-in’ how you want to be instead.

What I can help with

This can be more therapeutic NLP work, such as anxiety, stress responses, phobias, trauma patterns, low self-esteem, or a loud inner critic that seems to run the show! We’ll ensure we find and work on the ‘root’ of the issue, so we ensure it’s changed for good, as well as installing healthier responses, habits and ways to feel.

Or, you may be after a more performance and personal development focus, working towards enhancing and becoming the ‘best version’ of yourself using NLP techniques and a more coaching approach. The common thread is that it’s practical, solution-focused, and designed to create change that sticks.

I also offer a Havening clinic in Brighton as well, if integrated science-back body and somatic based work is what you’re looking for. You can find out more HERE.

Working with me, your in safe, capable and experienced hands. I’ll naturally integrate NLP with other approaches and modalities from my comprehensive toolkit and expertise, to ensure a flexible and tailored approach, using the most effective and efficient skills specifically for you. You can find out more about what I can help with below and read about my expertise or get to know more about me here.

Where we can see each other

I work both in person and online, depending on what suits you best. Alongside my established London Marylebone Practice , you can book NLP sessions in Brighton and Hove, or choose online sessions if that’s easier, you’re not local, or you simply prefer working from home.

The Brighton sessions are held at a discreet professional practice in the Brunswick area, with easy transport links and plenty to do nearby if you’ve got time to spare. It’s right in the middle between Brighton and Hove (actually… if you know, you know 😉). And if you’re travelling in from elsewhere in East Sussex, Brighton is often the easiest place to get into for in-person work.

The most common QUESTIONS I get asked

Is NLP therapy the same as NLP coaching?

They overlap a lot, and the difference is usually the focus, not the toolset. NLP can be used in a more therapeutic way (anxiety, phobias, trauma patterns, stress responses) and it can also be used for coaching-style outcomes (confidence, performance, communication, habits, motivation).

My style is naturally coaching-led, even when we’re working on more therapeutic themes. It’s practical, structured, and centred around change you can actually feel and apply. My extensive experience and the knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years, means that we can safely and effectively work through areas naturally suited to therapeutic knowledge and approach, but my style is frequently described as refreshingly informal and practical, regardless of the depth and professionalism required for the topic we are working on.

What happens in an NLP session with you?

We start by getting really clear on what you want to be different, and explore what’s currently keeping the pattern in place together. From there, we look at how your mind is constructing the experience. The thoughts, meanings, images, language, and the “rules” your brain is running in the background.

Sessions often feel conversational, but they’re they are very purposefully targeted. I’ll guide the process, we’ll do specific changework, and we’ll keep coming back to what will make the biggest difference safely and effectively. The aim is a clear internal shift and. if needed, a practical way to reinforce it.

I’ve seen “NLP counselling” in directories. What does that mean?

It’s often just a directory label. I get that it can be confusing, as some platforms group NLP under “counselling” categories, even when the practitioner doesn’t describe themselves as a counsellor.

I don’t refer to myself a counsellor simply because I’m not!  Counsellors undergo specific psychotherapy training and their approach and the timelines involved are very different.

I’m an NLP therapist and coach, and I work in a practical, change-focused way. If you’re not sure what you need (therapy, coaching, something in between), that’s common. There’s something out there for everyone and we can talk it through and work out the best fit for what you need, what you’re already tried and what works best for you individually.

Can NLP help with anxiety, phobias, trauma patterns, self-esteem, and the inner critic?

These are some of the most common reasons people come to NLP, yes. NLP is particularly useful when you’re dealing with patterns that have become automatic, like your system reacts before you’ve had a chance to think.

That can show up as anxiety loops, phobic responses, old triggers, low self-esteem, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or a negative and harsh inner voice that never gives you a break!

The work focuses on shifting the underlying pattern, not just coping strategies. Everyone’s history and nervous system is different, so we tailor the approach to you. But the beauty with NLP is we are able to establish and target the ‘coding’ (for want of a better expression) of the brain and body, rather than relying solely on ‘talking’ around it.

Do online NLP sessions work as well as in-person?

For many people, yes. NLP is largely about how your brain is running patterns internally, and we can work with that very effectively online. Some clients prefer it because they feel more comfortable at home, and it can make the work easier to integrate into real life straight away.

The main difference is the practical setup, not the quality or effectiveness. You’ll need the privacy of an undisturbed space, stable internet, and a bit of uninterrupted time. If you’re choosing between online and in-person, we can decide based on what will support your best outcomes. I get that some prefer the idea of face to face, so that’s possible too.

Fancy A QUICK CHAT?

If you’re looking for NLP therapy or coaching and you want a calm, safe, practical approach with a highly experienced, accredited Practitioner, I’d love to chat with you.

It’s really helpful for both of us to have a phone call together before we schedule a first session.

It’s a chance to:

  • answer your questions
  • hear a little about what you want help with and what may be best for you
  • check that I’m the right person for the job
  • agree the right next step

Although it will be useful to know a little about your background and past experiences, rest assured, it’s mainly a practical ‘get-to-know’ each other conversation. We’ll save the rest for once we know each other.
